In the first few minutes of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn and Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi sprint down a corridor in a split second to avoid blaster fire from droidekas — but why didn't Obi-Wan use Force Speed (or Force Dash) to save Qui-Gon from Darth Maul? This was the first live-action appearance of Force Speed, an ability that allows the user to move at impossible speeds using the Force. It’s a similar power to Force Jump, which allowed Luke to evade carbon-freezing in The Empire Strikes Back. Both abilities are powerful tools in a Jedi’s arsenal, yet Force Speed is hardly ever used in live-action. Even in dire situations, it seems both Jedi and Sith often forget the fact that they can cover large distances quickly.
