Henry Cavill confirmed that he will not be returning as Superman in the DCU following a conversation with James Gunn and Peter Safran, but Gunn recently offered a further explanation that Cavill wasn't actually fired. Gunn provided the first official look at the upcoming slate for the DCU at the end of January 2023, and while some actors will carry on into the DCU, Cavill is confirmed to not be reprising the role of Superman. This was confirmed in December 2022, but it came as a shock to many as his return was officially announced and marked by a cameo appearance at the end of Black Adam just a few months prior.
