Why Dune 2 Director Denis Villeneuve Is Disappointed His Movie Is Still #1 At The 2024 Box Office

Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve shares why he is disappointed that his film is still the top earner at the 2024 box office. The sequel starring Timothe Chalamet and Zendaya has grossed more than $711 million worldwide since releasing in theaters on March 1. No other 2024 movie has surpassed this milestone, with the next closest being Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire at $567 million, and Kung Fu Panda 4 at $542 million. Meanwhile, the summer box office is off to a slow start, with The Fall Guy, Furiosa, and other releases so far underperforming well below expectations.
