Jeremiah Johnson is a Western from 1972 based on the titular real-life figure, and its sweeping vistas and on-location cinematography make for a breathtaking movie. Jeremiah Johnson stars Robert Redford in one of his best roles, a Mexican War veteran who decides to live as a mountain man in the Rockies. Jeremiah fights the Crow tribe, befriends the Flathead tribe, marries a woman, finds an abandoned child, and becomes a legend through his exploits. By the end of the movie, it feels like Jeremiah has lived many lives, and it’s bittersweet to say goodbye when he raises his arm in peace in front of real-life snowcapped peaks.
