Despite the generally positive reception of the first installment, the Jurassic World trilogy is broadly acknowledged to be a failure. Following in the giant, three-toed footsteps of one of modern cinema's most iconic franchises was never going to be easy. After all, if the original saga proved anything, it was that building on the legacy of Spielberg's original was less straightforward than it seemed. But, even with some serious obstacles in the way, Jurassic World quickly degenerated into the kind of cynical cash grab that was so effectively skewered in the first Jurassic Park, making its failure creative as much as critical.
