First airing in 1989 and currently in the midst of season 35, The Simpsons holds the record as the longest-running animated sitcom ever, following the misadventures of an American family in the town of Springfield. The Jetsons, on the other hand, premiered in the early 1960s, and follows a family living in an imagined retro future, far removed from events in Springfield.
