The King's Man was a massive box office bomb, but The King's Man 2 is still happening, and its premise makes it an even bigger risk. The Kingsman franchise, initially heralded for its innovative approach to spy film narratives, veered off course with The King's Man. Positioned as a prequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the spinoff delved into the origins of the Kingsman agency, set against the backdrop of World War I. However, it was met with a lukewarm reception from critics and audiences, branding it as a box office disaster.
