Taraji P. Henson reveals one shortcoming in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 version of The Color Purple. Based on Alice Walker’s 1982 novel of the same name, Spielberg’s coming-of-age period drama centers around Celie Harris, a teenage Southern woman who struggles to find her identity following brutal abuse from her father and others over four decades. The movie, which gained commercial and critical acclaim, starred Whoopi Goldberg as Celie, and she was joined by other talented names including Danny Glover, Akosua Busia, Margaret Avery, Willard Pugh, Carl Anderson, Adolph Caesar, and Oprah Winfrey in her film debut.
