Taylor Sheridan has seemingly revived Western stories on television with Yellowstone, but the filmmaker dipped his toe into the genre a year beforehand with his movie Wind River, which is surprisingly getting a sequel. The neo-Western crime film was directed and written by Sheridan and premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival before releasing in theaters in the United States on August 4, 2017. Most critics gave Wind River positive reviews, which praised the movie for the cast's performances, the compelling and significant story at the center of the mystery, and Sheridan's direction.
