The seeds of the Rebel Alliance were actually sown in deleted scenes in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, in key moments that were cut to improve the pacing of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, but these have been re-canonized. Lucasfilm has now begun to explore the Dark Times of the Empire's reign, and this naturally presents an opportunity to complete the story of the Rebel Alliance.
