Based on Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Potts’ ages, it’s arguable that they are not the right actors for the characters of Doaker Charles and Winning Boy Charles in The Piano Lesson. At the very least, the screenplay for The Piano Lesson movie should have included some changes from the original August Wilson play. In addition to Jackson and Potts, the cast of The Piano Lesson includes John David Washington, Danielle Deadwyler, Ray Fisher, and Corey Hawkins. The film holds a score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics believing it faithfully adapts the Pulitzer Prize-winning August Wilson play.
