Samuel L. Jackson defends making The Hitman's Bodyguard after the action-comedy movie's 2021 sequel flopped at the box office. Released in 2017, The Hitman’s Bodyguard paired Jackson with Ryan Reynolds in an old-school buddy action-comedy about a private security specialist protecting a notorious hitman on his way to testify against a thuggish dictator. After the film grossed $183 million, a 2021 sequel was released, but the follow-up The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard did nowhere near as well as the original, grossing just $70 million worldwide.
