The thrilling drama is a 2014 film by La La Land director Damien Chazelle, which follows the story of a drumming student named Andrew who is under the intense direction of a domineering band instructor, Fletcher. Whiplash was based on the director’s own 18-minute short film from the year prior. Whiplash was nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture. It won Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons’ role of Fletcher, and this weekend, the film debuted its 10th anniversary re-release.
