Netflix did not think things through when it chose the title for Chupa, but that mistake actually exposes a larger platform problem. The Netflix film follows a young boy who befriends a chupacabra. The animal is a folklore legend reportedly seen in Puerto Rico, but the film takes place in Mexico, where the young boy, Alex, finds the animal in his grandfather's shed. Unfortunately, Netflix shortening the film's name to Chupa was a terrible idea because it has an inappropriate meaning. The animal is typically known for sucking the blood out of livestock like goats – a major problem for farmers.
