There’s just no telling how far Moana 2 will go, but based on the success of the film’s new trailer, it’s going to go the distance. In just 24 hours, the highly anticipated sequel’s first look has become Disney’s most-watched teaser ever for an animated film, racking up a whopping 178 million views across platforms since going live Wednesday (May 29).
According to Deadline, the plays are measured across TikTok, YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. Moana 2‘s view count reportedly washes the high numbers pulled in by previous record-holders Inside Out 2 (157 million) and Frozen 2 (116 million).
Arriving in theaters Nov. 27, the film will see Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprising their respective roles as Moana and Maui. In the sequel’s two-minute trailer, the titular character embarks on a journey across the seas after receiving a spiritual beckoning. While sailing in the ocean, she once again encounter’s The Rock’s muscular demigod.
“This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean,” Cravalho says in a voice-over.
Moana 2 was directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. It will feature music by songwriting partners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear as well as Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina.
The original film’s soundtrack was produced by Encanto composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and featured the Billboard Hot 100 hits “How Far I’ll Go” and “You’re Welcome.” In August 2021, it passed Frozen to become the longest-running No. 1 on Billboard‘s Soundtracks chart at 52 weeks.
