Meg 2: The Trench delivered a surprise by killing Li Bingbing's Suyin off-screen, and her death completely changes the franchise's future. The Jason Statham-led action sequel made headlines well before its release in 2023 due to the absence of original The Meg star Li Bingbing. The popular Chinese actress was confirmed to be missing from the sequel, which created questions about how Meg 2 would explain Suyin not being included. The story evolved to introduce her brother Jiuming (Jing Wu) as a new ally for Suyin's daughter Meiying (Shuya Sophia Cai) and Jonas Taylor, and he explained the surprising reason behind Li Bingbing's absence.
