Another Lollapalooza is officially in the books! The 2023 festival kicked off at Grant Park in Chicago on Thursday (Aug. 3) and concluded Sunday night (Aug. 6), following four days of performances from the hottest stars in music.
Billie Eilish, Karol G, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Kendrick Lamar, Odesza, Lana Del Rey, The 1975 and Red Hot Chili Peppers were among this year headliners, with some of the mainstage players marking a series of firsts for the festival. Karol G, who took the stage Thursday, became the first Latin performer to headline the festival since its inception, while TXT made history on Saturday night at the first K-pop group to headline Lollapalooza Chicago.
K-pop earned further representation at this year’s fest, with NewJeans performing a packed 45-minute set on Thursday evening. Fresh off the release of their second EP, Get Up, the quintet used the festival to make their debut performance in the United States, which additionally marked them as the first female K-pop group to perform at the festival.
Other performers at the festival included Carly Rae Jepsen, just after the release of her seventh studio album, The Loveliest Time; high-energy dance sets from genre staples Diplo and Fred Again..; Afrobeats vibes courtesy of “Men Dem” collaborators Tems and Rema; alternative hits from Men I Trust and Cafuné; and much more.
