National Geographic’s A Small Light is the story of Miep Gies, the Dutch woman who hid Anne Frank and her family, among others, for just over two years. The powerful story is brought to life in part by showrunners Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and director Susanna Fogel who, in an interview with Screen Rant, made it clear that they wanted to share Gies’ life in a new and engaging way. The 6-episode miniseries does just that, turning an ultimately tragic narrative into something incredibly relatable and human.
