L-Acoustics Launches Immersive Audio Platform for In-Studio & Live Music Settings

French loudspeaker manufacturer L-Acoustics has launched L-ISA 3.0, a comprehensive immersive audio software platform for the live sound and music creation markets. The spatial technology software platform is outfitted with new tools for creating and automating compelling spatial audio content, live or in the studio.

L-ISA 3.0 integrates with Mixhalo, the app-based audio platform created by Incubus guitarist Michael Einziger and his wife, classically-trained musician and Hans Zimmer collaborator Ann Marie Simpson-Einziger. Mixhalo boasts an ultra-low latency sound technology that allows fans to use their smartphones and headphones to tap directly into the full band mix at a concert — or focus on unique mixes, like a guitar mix or drum solo. The integration allows Mixhalo users to tap into a binaural mix powered by the L-ISA Processor.

“As consumer audio platforms such as Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon Music continue to make spatial audio more ubiquitous, having the ability to create and perform in immersive is now a necessity and accessible to all — regardless of skill level or format,” said L-Acoustics director of product management, software and electronics Scott Sugden in a statement. “The new L-ISA 3.0 platform brings more value to our immersive technology platform for those who’ve chosen to use it in their venues and for those who choose to create their content with it.”

L-ISA 3.0 also includes an FX Engine that allows designers to create reactive movements and trajectories with fully customizable controls and behaviors that can be additively applied to unlimited objects, bringing mixes of all sizes to life. The system additionally features a stereo mapping suite supporting both stereo and immersive content.

“While an increasing number of venues around the world already possess L-ISA immersive audio configurations and 3D mixing capabilities, visiting artists may not have their content ready in an immersive format while on tour,” a press release explained. “For those artists, the new Stereo Mapper feature in L-ISA 3.0 maps existing stereo content to an immersive speaker configuration — without changing the original artist’s mix. Stereo Mapper distributes stereo content to an L-ISA configuration while conserving a similar power distribution as traditional left/right array configurations to retain the original stereo image and overall mix.”

L-ISA 3.0 also includes an updated Snapshot Engine which “provides increased granularity and scope of what can be stored in snapshots, allowing users to choose which sources are visible at any given moment in time, with features such as source processing, delay, reverb, and more,” according to the release.

Additionally, ew edit and preview modes allow users to visualize the position of audio sources, make on-the-fly adjustments without any interruption or downtimes and help novice and experienced users “achieve truly convincing spatial audio mixes,” according to the release. “With its powerful real-time editing and previewing functionality, it is now easier than ever to fine-tune spatialization settings to achieve the exact 3D audio mix you are looking for.”
