Here’s the Date of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards

The 2024 MTV Video Awards will return to New York on Tuesday, Sept. 10. That’s just four days shy of the 40th anniversary of the inaugural VMAs at Radio City Music Hall, where Madonna stole the show with a performance of “Like a Virgin” that people are still talking about.

This year’s show will be held at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., just outside of New York City limits. This will be the first awards show to be held at the arena, which opened in 2021. UBS Arena will be the sixth venue in New York to host the VMAs, following Radio City (12 times), The Palladium (once), the Metropolitan Opera House (twice), Barclay’s Center (twice) and Madison Square Garden (once).

“We’re excited to bring this year’s VMAs to UBS Arena, one of the country’s newest and most cutting-edge venues,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming & events, Paramount and chief content officer, music, Paramount+. “Celebrating one of music’s biggest nights with the incredible, robust New York area fans is something we’ve been looking forward to since the moment last year’s show ended.”

“We are excited to welcome back the MTV Video Music Awards to New York State,” said New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. “From its origins at Radio City Music Hall in 1984 to this September’s event at the UBS Arena, the VMAs continue to captivate millions.”

Nicki Minaj hosted last year’s VMAs and co-hosted the 2022 show with Jack Harlow and LL Cool J. Both shows were held at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Taylor Swift won video of the year both years, for “All Too Well: The Short Film” and “Anti-Hero.”

The 2024 VMAs will air live at 8 p.m. ET and tape-delayed at 8 p.m. PT. It will air across MTV’s global footprint of linear and digital platforms in more than 150 countries and territories.
