Alongside fellow newcomers like Jordan Peele and Robert Eggers, Aster has contributed to the new wave of critically acclaimed horror that emerged in the 2010s and the so-called elevated horror movement. Asters first movie, Hereditary, exemplified the fragility of the nuclear family by introducing one to a pagan cult, while his second, Midsommar, challenged The Wicker Man for the title of greatest folk horror movie.
