The 2024 French Open is coming to the end! Today (June 7), Carlos Alcaraz secured his first French Open finals appearance by defeating Jannik Sinner. According to ESPN, this makes the 21-year-old Spaniard the youngest man to reach a Grand Slam Final. “The toughest matches that I played in my short career have been against Jannik,” Alcaraz shared with ESPN.
This will mark the first men’s championship match at the French Open since 2004 that will not feature Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, or Novak Djokovic.
You can catch the men’s final on Sunday, June 9 live on NBC Sports, Peacock and the Tennis Channel, broadcasting from the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
The start of the men’s competition at the Grand Slam tournament took an unpredictable turn with the early defeat of Rafael Nadal. The 14-time French Open winner was unable to overcome an injury to progress past the first round. His tournament run ended early against Alexander Zverev.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next few months…I need to finish all this process. My mind-set was ready till Olympics, you know, and then I need to check how I feel in different ways,” Nadal shared with ESPN.
For the women’s division, Polish player Iga Świątek has won the French Open two years in a row. She will now compete against Jasmine Paolini at the finals, according to AP News.
