Given that 2014’s Whiplash is packed with incredible performances, viewers may be left wondering if Miles Teller’s drum playing was real in the film. Written and directed by La La Land‘s Damien Chazelle, Whiplash is a psychological drama that centers on Teller’s Andrew Neiman, an aspiring jazz drummer who studies under the abusive Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons). Fletcher isn’t just physically abusive to his students, but cruel, strict, and manipulative as well something Andrew learns real fast when he steps in as an alternate drummer for the Conservatory’s studio band.
