Many horror films feature a cast of characters placed in an isolated cabin in the woods where they are hunted by a masked killer or other malevolent force. Generally in these movies, almost as a rule, the black character is inevitably the first to die. The Blackening, directed by Tim Story, offers a twist on that premise and a main cast consisting entirely of Black people. As the film's tagline states, "We can't all die first."
