Derek is perhaps one of the characters with the most complicated history in Teen Wolf. Most of his family was killed in a fire when he was in his late teens. Shortly after, Derek lost his sister, Laura, who was brutally murdered by his Uncle Peter, who wanted to become an Alpha in her place. Understandably, this past deeply affects most of Derek's plot lines and decisions throughout the Teen Wolf TV show. Therefore, it makes sense that his job in Teen Wolf: The Movie would be affected by that troubled origin.
