Tim Burton is a renowned director, but his remakes have been met with far more mixed success than his original films. Most notoriously, Burton directed a 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes. Though its 1968 counterpart had become a cult classic by that point, Burton’s 2001 version was not nearly as well-received. The movie holds a rotten 43% among critics and an even worse 27% Popcornmeter from audiences. The movie still profitted, making $362.2 million worldwide on an estimated $100 million budget.
