Chayanne Notches First Top 10 on Tropical Airplay In Over a Decade With ‘Bailando Bachata’

Chayanne is back on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart thanks to his latest single “Bailando Bachata,” which debuts at No. 6 on the June 10-dated survey. The new arrival marks his first entry since 2015, and a first top 10 success since October 2008, before Tropical Airplay changed from being station-based to strictly a genre-based chart.

“Bailando Bachata” (and its music video) was released May 25 via Sony Music Latin. It debuts in the top 10 with 5 million audience impressions earned during its first tracking week ending June 1, according to Luminate.

The song is the third single from Chayanne’s forthcoming album (release dated to be announced), his first studio effort since En Todo Estaré arrived at No. 1 on both Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums rankings in 2015.

The new tropical single follows two other top 10 songs from the upcoming set: “Te Amo y Punto” and the pop-rhythmic “Como Tú y Yo” reached No. 6 and No. 7 on Latin Pop Airplay (in the October and December 2022-dated charts, respectively).

Bachata has found major recent success in America through collaborations by artists outside of the tropical genre, with acts such as Rosalía, Justin Timberlake and others jumping on the bandwagon. It’s not Chayanne’s case, whose roster of songs are predominantly Latin pop. The Puerto Rican tapped the Dominican format when he released a bachata remix of the pop track “Bailando Dos Corazones” in 2015. The No. 12-peaking Tropical Airplay tune marked his last entry on the tally until now.

Further, as “Bachata” debuts at No. 6, it also becomes Chayanne’s first top 10 hit since the five-week champ “Amor Inmortal” arrived at the penthouse in Oct. 2008, when the chart was station-based versus the now genre-based list.

Outside of its top 10 debut on Tropical Airplay, “Bachata” also drives Chayanne to new heights on the overall Latin Airplay chart as the song starts at No. 19. It’s his highest charting title in more than five years, since “Que Me Has Hecho” with Wisin marked his last top 10 there in 2017 (peaking at No. 10 on the Sept. 2, 2017-dated chart).
