Billboard looks back and counts down the top five songs that ruled the summer of 2012.
Rania Aniftos:
Welcome back to 2012! The one with a record-breaking heatwave, and the top five songs on the Hot 100 proved to be just as sizzling. First up is Ellie Goulding’s hit song ‘Lights,’ which kicks us off at No. 5. The No. 4 song again belongs to one of our favorite ‘California Gurls’ Katy Perry with her hit ‘Wide Awake’ inspired by her divorce from Russell Brand and connected with a lot of fans in 2012.

It’s the beat that was in everyone’s heads all summer long — do you recognize it? Gotye featuring Kimbra comes in at No. 3 with ‘Somebody That I Used to Know.’

Another summer, another huge collab making it into the No. 2 spot: Maroon 5 teamed up with Wiz Khalifa for the huge hit ‘Payphone.’ Now the summer bop to top all other summer bops in 2012 belongs to Carly Rae Jepsen. ‘Call Me Maybe’ blew up and made Carly instantly famous. I dare you to try to get this one out of your head. We’ll be back next week to break down your old times summer faves of 2013.
