American Born Chinese has finally premiered on Disney+ after much anticipation, introducing audiences to reluctant hero Jin (played by Ben Wang) and his overconfident new friend Wei-Chen (Jimmy Liu). The former is dragged into the world of Chinese mythology, which comes to life before his eyes thanks to the latter's dogged mission to save his homeland. The series is based on the acclaimed graphic novel Gene Luen Yang, and the premiere and finale have the distinction of being directed by Shang Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton, who sets a high bar.
