Many Twisted Metal characters from the video games appear in the live-action show, though Peacock has altered many of their backstorys for the series. The original Twisted Metal game arrived for the PlayStation in 1995 and spawned an entire franchise. Each Twisted Metal game revolves around a tournament where racers such as Sweet Tooth or Dollface race around in custom vehicles with unique weaponry. The contest is (almost) always held by the mysterious Calypso, who grants the winner their most heartfelt wish.
