Insidious: The Red Door has continued the franchise's trend of low Rotten Tomatoes scores, but audiences are diverging from critics. The movie, which opened in theaters on July 7, is the fifth entry in the horror franchise that began with 2010's Insidious, which was directed by James Wan from a screenplay by Leigh Whannell. The new movie was directed by Patrick Wilson, who reprises his original role as Josh Lambert opposite additional returning cast members Ty Simpkins, Rose Byrne, and Lin Shaye.
