The most recent spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, is a particular culprit of this as it is currently airing its first season, set several years after The Walking Dead season 11 when variants were first introduced. First and foremost though, The Walking Dead is a comic book and television franchise following the horrifying and hopeful aftereffects of a zombie apocalypse.
