Though K-dramas from the 1990s aren’t as popular as those released in recent years, the decade is still quite significant in the history of South Korean TV. During the ’90s, the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, began, which saw the rise in popularity of Korean culture in other parts of the world. Though K-dramas had been released decades before, the ’90s is when these series began gaining traction around all of Asia, before eventually expanding to other parts of the world.
