Although Avatar: Fire & Ash seems unlikely to replace Jake and Neytiri as the franchise’s main characters, this isn’t necessarily a good thing for the series. When the Avatar franchise began, it started with the simple story of Jake Sully. A human Marine who was tasked with infiltrating the Na’vi population of Pandora to assist attempts to mine their planet’s resources, Jake fell in love with the Na’vi Neytiri and eventually became the leader of the anti-human resistance. By Avatar: The Way of Water’s ending, this simple plot had become far more complex.
