Chidi Anagonye's biggest fault in The Good Place is that he was painfully indecisive—but this was retconned and made far more extreme after season 1. Each of the four humans that wound up in Michael's fake Good Place had been sentenced to an eternity of being tortured because of the way they lived on earth. However, at first, Eleanor was the only one who clearly didn't belong. For this reason, Chidi's character was presented as deserving of the Good Place, so his indecisiveness was only made a problem when the truth about Michael became clear. Then, it got worse from there.
