Blumhouse's horror movies rarely disappoint, but the trailer for a new film from the production company has garnered criticism for its depiction of a trite horror trope. Like every other movie genre, horror, too, has a wide array of storytelling conventions, themes, and tropes. While some have stood the test of time and offer enough scope for filmmakers to explore them in myriad ways, others have not aged too well and seem forced and overused when they appear in movies.
