The epic conclusion of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power saw Galadriel tempted to join Sauron, and the history of Middle-earth would have been radically different had she fallen for his lies and half-truths. Although J.R.R. Tolkien is renowned for the depth of his world-building, he often changed his mind when discussing the backstories of characters and races. The origin of the orcs, for example, changes several times in the notes that were published by his son Christopher after Tolkien's death. The Silmarillion, for example, speaks of the orcs as fallen elves. Tolkien abandoned this idea, preferring that the elves be seen as incorruptible.
