The classic Western genre may not be as popular today as it once was, but its influence has permeated throughout modern television, and without it there are plenty of television series that would not exist today. The stories of cowboys, outlaws, and gunmen traversing across the Wild West have now been transported into new settings and blended with other genres to create something that took the best of classic Westerns and gave it a modern feel. Many of today’s TV shows still echo Western themes of individuality, justice, and revenge, while also forging their own unique identity away from the tropes of the genre.
