Netflix's new series The Diplomat is already being regarded as one of the best new political dramas. The show follows an ambitious and blunt US Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) and her problematic yet charming husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) as she travels to the US Embassy in London to consult the Prime Minister after an unprovoked missile attack on a British Naval ship. Through the first eight episodes of season 1, Kate is faced with a number of diplomatic challenges, some of which arriving from her own husband's frustrating antics, that test her ability to persuade world leaders toward peaceful resolutions under very intense circumstances.
