Godzilla’s original appearance in 1954’s Godzilla has typically been viewed as a horror movie, given its dark subject matter and the wanton destruction of Godzilla’s attacks. However, in the following years of the period recognized as the Showa Era, Toho’s Godzilla evolved into a borderline silly character as they moved the character towards family-friendliness.
