Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice is a widely adored horror comedy classic from the ‘80s with a highly anticipated sequel on the way, but a few flaws show up on a rewatch of the original film today. Beetlejuice was the first Burton movie to really feel like a Burton movie. He made his feature-length directorial debut with the uncharacteristically family-friendly Pee-wee’s Big Adventure before settling into his now-renowned love of the macabre with his sophomore effort, Beetlejuice. Burton’s uniquely gothic style of horror, bringing surreal concepts to life with a dark, gloomy visual palette, was largely established by his direction of Beetlejuice.
