American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders tells the story of Danny Casolaro, but there are several details in the story that the Netflix docuseries leaves out. The making of the four-part documentary was spurred by the investigation into Casolaro's mysterious death in 1991 by Christian Hansen and Zachary Treitz. Hansen and Treitz are careful to explore every angle of their exploration into Casolaro's life and work and cite the dangers and interests of conspiracy theories without taking an explicit stance. Similarly to many of the best documentaries on Netflix, The Octopus Murders has more to say than it initially seems.
