The Hunger Games prequel film, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, nearly repeated a mistake of the parent series, and the decision to do otherwise has saved the upcoming film. Set 64 years before the events of Katniss' first stint in the Hunger Games arena, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is based on the prequel novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The author released the single novel in 2020 and centered the story around a teenage President Coriolanus Snow. The content-packed prequel wrapped itself up beautifully with just one installment, and the upcoming Lionsgate film will (thankfully) do the same.
