Taylor Swift Is the Top Billboard Hot 100 Songwriter of 2023

On top of finishing 2023 as Billboard’s overall Top Artist of the year, Taylor Swift is also the No. 1 Hot 100 Songwriter of the year for the first time.

She tops the year-end ranking thanks to a whopping 44 songwriting credits on the Billboard Hot 100 during the 2023 chart eligibility period (Nov. 19, 2022-Oct. 21, 2023), including her eight-week No. 1 hit, “Anti-Hero.”

Here’s a look at all 44 of Swift’s songwriting credits on the Hot 100 during the 2023 tracking period, which all contribute to her placement on the year-end ranking. As is reflected below, Swift is credited as the sole songwriter on many of the songs listed, helping boost her chart points (as she doesn’t share points with any other individuals).

(It’s worth noting that her former No. 1 hit from 2014, “Blank Space,” is included below because it re-entered the Hot 100 for two weeks in August. “Cruel Summer” also rose to No. 1 on the Hot 100 one week after the 2023 eligibility period ended, on Oct. 28—its chart run from June through Oct. 21 did, however, contribute to her point totals.)

This is the second year in a row that Swift has finished as one of the top 10 songwriters. Last year, she finished the year at No. 3 (behind Lin-Manual Miranda and Dave Bayley), thanks to 50 songwriting credits—largely from Red (Taylor’s Version) and Midnights.

Just below Swift on the year-end Hot 100 Songwriters list, Zach Bryan finishes at No. 2, thanks to 25 songwriting credits on the Hot 100 during the eligibility period. Of those, two reached the top 10: his breakthrough “Something In the Orange” (No. 10 peak in January) and “I Remember Everything,” featuring Kacey Musgraves (No. 1 in September).

After Bryan, Swift’s collaborator Jack Antonoff finishes as the No. 3 Hot 100 Songwriter, powered by 15 songwriting credits, all by Swift.

Ashley Gorley claims the No. 4 spot on the year-end Hot 100 Songwriters ranking, thanks to 20 songwriting credits during the period, including Morgan Wallen’s 16-week leader “Last Night,” which he co-wrote with John Byron, JKash and Charlie Handsome. Other songs contributing to his rank include Wallen’s “You Proof,” “One Thing At A Time” and “Thinkin’ Bout Me.”

SZA finishes as the No. 5 Hot 100 songwriter of the year, thanks to 25 songwriting credits on the Hot 100, mostly from her 10-week No. 1 album SOS. Of her 25 credits, four reached the top 10: “Kill Bill” (No. 1); “Slime You Out” with Drake (No. 1); “Snooze” (No. 2); and “Nobody Gets Me” (No. 10).

Billboard’s year-end music recaps represent aggregated metrics for each artist, title, label and music contributor on the weekly charts from Nov. 19, 2022, through Oct. 21, 2023. Rankings for Luminate-based recaps reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales or streaming during the weeks that the titles appeared on a respective chart during the tracking year. Any activity registered before or after a title’s chart run isn’t considered in these rankings. That methodology detail, and the November-October time period, account for some of the difference between these lists and the calendar-year recaps that are independently compiled by Luminate.
